Disappointing results
I have never tried calligraphy before but have very neat handwriting so wasn’t expecting a problem with using these pens. I bought them to write guest names on wedding invitations but quickly had to abandon the idea because of the disappointing results. I couldn’t get the ink to flow consistently smoothly and despite many practice attempts was finally forced to use something else. I haven’t completely given up on using them in the future hence a hopeful 2 stars instead of 1.

Good overall some issues
Overall the pen is good and I still use it however it does have a few issues... This is reasonable considering the price however the pen is prone to leaks and it it hard to get the ink to get flowing when using a new nib.

Better than the ink dipping style calligraphy set
This is the second calligraphy product I have purchased from Hobbycraft and I want to say how much easier it is to use than the old style nibs+holder where you have to dip it in ink... and much less hassle! and less messy! I much prefer this product to the expensive kit I bought before and this uses ink cartridges which makes it very easy to refill. It also comes with a special cartridge that has a plunger for sucking up ink so if you have a bottle of ink it can be used to refill it too!

This item is great for beginner and advanced calligraphy writers. Comes with 3 nibs, 2 ink cartridges and ink well cartridge. No leaking and perfect to write with.

Pen set is good quality for the price for a beginner, however there was an additional cartridge wedge into the pen barrel which rendered the pen unusable. A shame.
However, I returned the set to the store as there were none of the same I paid the difference for a different set. It seemed the problem had occurred in other sets..... the staff dealt with issue no problem

Works Well!
I've used a variety of fountain pens and found that some work better than others, for example, leaking ink or the opposite, the ink doesn't come out properly. This pen works...it takes a few words to get it flowing at its best, then it works really well which also makes it good value for money. Wherever possible I store these pens upside down, with the nib to the bottom, so they're ready for action quicker than if laid flat or the other way up.

An excellent starter kit.
I studied Lettering and Calligraphy as part of my Fine Art Course in 1966.I still use these skills and hope to pass on the interest to my Grandchildren.The Manuscript Beginner's Calligraphy Set is in my opinion an excellent starter kit.Traditional in concept with a choice of three Nibs it offers the way forward for those wishing to embark on mastering one of the finest of skills.

Great to start off
I love a fountain pen, so this was a great purchase to add a fancy effect writing invites.
Be mindful of the extra ink cartridges in the pens, i did not no there was a spare and got it wedged up inside the pen housing.
The price is perfect for a first timer learning, or wanting to play around and keep it simple.

I am delighted with my purchase of the Beginner's Calligraphy set which has restored my confidence in using my Calligraphy skills which have lain dormant for some years. Comes with three quality nibs and inks and left-handed nib exchange. Viva hand written Calligraphy in this age of computer technology!

Brilliant for starters
I bought it and since I'm left handed and I struggled at first and then watched lots of videos and I found overwriting a very handy tactic. I really enjoyed it and my handwriting is now much better!!! I would really recommend it if your using it for your first time.

Great for basics
This is an excellent little kit for a beginner -- smooth nibs, and a convenient cartridge (you will have to buy replacements) for minimum mess and fuss. Enough tools for anyone to want to go on developing their calligraphy skills.

Perfect range of nibs
Tired of disposable calligraphy pen nibs getting damaged, I thought I’d try this pen. The selection of nibs is perfect for what I need. The ink cartridge fitted easily and ink flowed with no problems.

Not a good buy
This pen comes with a number of different nib sizes - however it leaks terribly and gets your hands covered in ink - cartridges also got stuck. Would recommend buying a higher quality pen.

Comes with multiple nibs and two ink cartridges. Takes a while to actually get the ink to come out when you first use it or when you change the nib, but after that writes nice and smoothly

Easy to use
