What a joy this singer is!
First ever new sewing machine. I chose so well. It really does go over big lumps of fabric! No issues at all. The needle threader is awesome! It's so intuitive to use despite fab instruction booklet. Its sturdy, great looking in trendy grey ( matches my kitchen!!) Absolutely fabulous machine. Great price too!

Maybe not so heavy duty ...
Had to return the first one we bought as the bobbin thread kept knotting underneath, it was catching on something. It was changed without any issue.
The replacement seems better, but even though I have a walking foot, it does not like sewing over 2 seams, so not so heavy duty as I'd like really. It will happily stitch through several layers of fabric, it just seems to be seams it doesn't like.
It is also very picky about what thread you use! Instant dislike is shown if the thread isn't up to its exacting standards. Maybe Singer isn't quite what it used to be ...

Amazing machine
Would thoroughly recommend it. I am an experienced sewer and was looking for a machine that could handle any material and this machine does not disappoint. It sews beautifully and quietly,and helps the sewer to sew with confidence. If you're unsure whether to buy it I would say definitely go for it. It's great value for money and gives a professional finish to your sewing. I love it. My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner!

Fabulous, basic, machine.
Fabulous, basic machine. As an experienced dressmaker who owns an industrial machine, I wanted something that I could bring into the house to work on projects over the Christmas break. I did a bit of research beforehand and thought that this would be the best option for my needs. Honestly, I am very surprised at the stitch quality and speed. As an experienced dressmaker I know I don’t need, or use, a gazillion stitch options - a good straight stitch, zigzag and buttonhole are all I truly need and this machine provides those. Really very happy with it!

Brilliant all round machine
Had my eye on this machine, to compliment my larger machine. As this is Advertised as a Heavy Duty machine, realised this would be perfect. It does not disappoint, I have been very very impressed. Started sewing velvet straight away and it has dealt with everything I have thrown at it so far. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a great all round machine.

Simple to use, perfect for someone with less experience, robust and intuitive design.
Product feels strongly made and robust enough to suffer taps and knocks as it comes out of the cupboard. easy to understand how it works and sufficient functions for what I need.No fancy fiddly bits. No confusing set up procedure. Smooth peddle and sows really straight.

Better than expected!
Although I have a couple of other machines, a Brother & a Pfaff, I needed something with a bit more oomph for use in crafting etc.
I'd done some research & decided on the Singer 4423 Heavy Duty. Not too expensive and not full of features I didn't need...not computerised, either.
I'm really rather pleased with this machine!
This first task I set it was sewing denim, as I had to alter a pair of jeans. It didn't miss a stitch and sailed through the job. The stitch selection actually matched those on the jeans, which helped my work look tidy.
Then I set it to making craft items. All pretty sturdy fabrics - sailed through again!
I like this machine because it's simple and does what it says it does. If you want a couple of hundred different stitches, then buy something else. This has twenty three, including stretch.
My only complaint is that it doesn't leave the needle down in your work, so watch out for that.
Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

Great machine
I needed a new machine that would cope better with sewing through many thicknesses of material. This glides through with no problem. It’s easy to use, lots of great features such as a top loading bobbin and being able to see when it's running out. There’s lots yet to try out but so far I’m very happy with it.

singer heavy duty machine
I have had this machine for a few weeks and I must say I am really impressed. It has to be the best home machine I have bought. It's speed is great and it is easy to control. The one step buttonhole is so simple. I have tried a variety of materials from cotton to clear vinyl with no problems at all. Twin needling is simple. I really love this machine would highly recommend it

Lovely gift
Mother's day gift that was a huge success. My mother in law, who has been a seamstress for more then 45 yrs, was reluctant to part with an old machine as she was worried about the build quality. Thankfully this machine has passed her test for quality of structure and sewing.

Great features but not up to the job
Bought this machine to do family alterations, eg taking jeans up as it said heavy duty I expected it to be able to sew on the thicker parts. It did not and kept jamming. I returned it to the Store and the assistant tried it, it was exactly the same for her. I exchanged it for a different machine.

This machine is so easy to use
My previous machine although it was good it struggled with thicker fabrics and putting in zips on jeans, this machine cope brilliantly also on thinner material like satin it was equally as good. Definite winner.

Satisfyingly manual
This machine is perfect for me, it has a satisfying "clunk" when changing stitch patterns and needle position, much like the older singer machines (I learnt to sew with a singer fashion mate from the 80's).
It has a really easy to use needle threader and is basically ready to use straight out of the box (you may need to give the manual a quick read to make sure you get the bobbin to thread right). It is slightly loud in comparison to some other machines, but it's not problematic. I've used this so far to sew together several layers of thick fabrics and faux fur with no problems.
Really nicely built, there's a compartment for bobbins/accessory storage build in to the base and everything is well fit together. There is also a thread cutter on the side of the machine which is much more convenient for me than others with the cutter located behind the shank.
There is a cover included in the box, this is very cheap and thin and does not fit over the cable when it is plugged in, it is absolutely fine for light use, however I can imagine if you are looking to buy a heavy duty machine to use often, you will probably already have a more appropriate bag or trolley case in mind to keep it in.
This is a great machine for someone who wants a solid machine that is still very manual and isn't stuffed with fancy features and stitches that realistically probably won't be used.
I am very pleased with this machine so far and should make light work of the costumes I plan to make in the future!

This product is real heavy duty. Powers through my sewing.
I bought this machine as an emergency. I must say I have been very surprised at the power it has. It will sew through many layers of fabric with ease. Has a good speed to it as well, very easy to work the dials and controls out. I give it a 10* rating

Singer 4423 Heavy duty sewing machine.
This machine is better than its write up. It is much better quality than the cheaper machines, has plenty of stitch options and feels more like my first sewing machine (a second hand 1950s singer) in its build quality as opposed to the very flimsy plastic machines about. You will need a sewing machine bag or you could use the box it came in to store it.

Easy to set up, clear instructions, auto threader a Godsend for failing eyesight,
1 step auto buttonholes a delight, even sewing on a button was easy,
When all else fails , read the instructions,
Everything I needed to know or clarify was there,
Runs fairly quietly, sews fast so be aware of this brilliant feature,
I would definitely recommend the singer heavy duty 4423 sewing machine to anyone dithering over which to buy,

Easy to use solid sewing machine. Has a great range of features including sewing thicker fabric.
I purchased this Singer Sewing Machine as it was recommended for thicker fabrics like Faux Fur. It is heavy duty so built well and solid. It is easy to use and there are also clear online videos to learn from. Threading the machine is really straight forward and it is so useful to have the automatic needle threader. It has many features which I have not explored yet. Well worth the money for a heavy duty machine.

Great heavy weight sewing machine. Easy to load cotton and spools. A lot quieter than other machines which is an added bonus.
Only downside is that the instruction manual could do with being clearer and more informative.

Great, better than I expected!!
I bought this model as I want to be able to sew heavy materials. I have only done a few projects to date but it has stood up to the test very well. Very smooth, easy to set up and great selection of stitches.

Easy to use machine
I am very pleased with the machine. I wanted a machine to use at home on heavier fabrics. This is ideal. I like the automatic needle threader and the dials are easy to use. I have not used all the features as yet. Only negative is I wish it came with a more substantial sewing machine cover so I will have to make a better one myself.
