Rated 3 out of 5 by from 1 of the 3 balls was rubbish. So glad I got this in a 3 for 2 offer as one of the balls was utterly rubbish. One third of the way through using the ball it turned into a very thin thickness, different front the rest of the ball. It was very noticeable on my cardigan so I had to frog it all, cut out the thin yarn which turned out to be at least half the ball. Thankfully the other 2 balls were fine and I was able to complete my project. If I'm honest it does make me wary of buying this yarn again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely soft yarn I bought this yarn to crochet myself a top, I have not made anything just for me yet so I spent a long time browsing through colours and weights. This yarn is a lovely browny red colour and has a really soft finish. It works up beautifully and doesn't have too.much fluff or fray to it. I have unpicked my work a few times and it still looks perfect. I expect its quite hard wearing too once worked into a garment. Exactly the quality I expect from the WI range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Women’s Institute Aran Wool - purple I haven’t used this wool yet because I am busily knitting a sweater and bobble hat for a friends expected granddaughter due in June! So whereas I haven’t started knitting with this wool yet, I love the colour and I love 100 gram balls because it means less knots when you finish one ball and start another! Woman’s Institute wool is my favourite brand and as an advanced knitter it is the most reliable yarn. And the colour is beautiful!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely wool to knit with a few problems This wool is easy to knit with. I used a cable pattern for my 8 year old granddaughter. The colour is on trend for this Autumn & Winter but the ball is 400 gms and so big it starts to unravel and knot when used. I had to resort to winding smaller balls from it. The other problem is that there are no smaller balls of this wool to buy if you need more than 400 and less than 800gms making it expensive to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed as very thin for Aran Started knitting with this wool but despite trying different needle sizes I could not get the tension correct to that advised within the pattern. On looking and feeling the thickness of this wool against a couple of other Aran yarns I have used this is much thinner and more like double knit. Very disappointed as I don’t have a receipt to return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful soft yarn I've used Women's Institute yarn many times before and it never fails to disappoint. The Soft and Smooth Aran 400g is simply a joy to work with and easily glides over my hook when crocheting. I also love using the larger 400g balls as it means there is less joining during larger projects. I would definitely recommend this yarn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WI Soft and Smooth Aran Grey I've just crocheted a pocket shawl with his yarn. I found it really easy to work with, the stitch definition is excellent and I'm really pleased with the result. What a wonderful yarn, much better than a lot of others I've worked with, as it says on the sleeve soft and smooth, not at all scratchy like some of the others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! I bought this wool to crochet a Harry Potter infinity scarf for my daughter. I used two strands of each colourway and the results were very pleasing! Thick and soft, perfect for Winter. It was also included in the 3 for 2 offer so I now have a beautiful cream skein to make something pretty with, bonus!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Yarn I love this yarn it’s soft and works up very easily. The plum colour will be beautiful for the autum. I have said before that the WI Aran yarn is one of the best. The only draw back is the lack of colours would love to see a strong bright red along the lines of Superman’s cape or a post box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product to use for crocheting I found this product lovely to use for crocheting cardigans. Its soft to touch and doesn't irritate the skin like some yarns can. The yarn doesn't snag when having to pull out mistakes. I would recommend this yarn for your projects and well priced for the size of the amount of yarn you get.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Soft Aran Have purchased this wool in different colours many times and have always been very happy with results. Unfortunately this time there was so many knots in the wool that had to be taken apart and consequently many more joins to be sewn in. Quite a large amount of wool lost because of this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft easy to crochet yarn Love this yarn, it is lovely and soft and very easy to work with. I bought it in some Harry Potter inspired colours for my boys' world book day potato costumes (don't ask!) and will be crocheting them a jumper each too as the balls are enormous! Great value

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I bought this wool to knit hats on my new Addi knitting machine, and it didn't disappoint! It is smooth and passes over the needles effortlessly. The result is a professional looking bobble hat. Will definitely purchase this brand again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour and texture Love this colour, and the wool feels so good when crocheted. Not sure what to use this particular ball for yet but I've used the same in other colours to make blankets and small toys as baby gifts and they have been very well-received!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First rate Absolutely love this yarn I have brought several balls in several colours the latest are for a crocheted blanket which is red grey and light grey. This is really nice yarn to use it hasn't split like some yarns i have used in the past

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Soft yarn to many snags The yarn knits well but in both balls there were a series of thinned sections, knots and frayed areas. This meant I had to cut and join loosing yarn length but I did have just enough to complete. Had to sew up with a different yarn

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product. Used this range several times. Lovely rich colour and a yarn which knits up well. Have used this brand several times for knitting jumpers/ cardigans for my grandchildren and never been disappointed. The yarn washes well which is an important factor to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely to work with I really enjoyed knitting with this wool - lovely colours and easy to work with. I’ve made two baby blankets so far (one still in progress) and the result is lovely and soft - though I realise poss too heavy for a newborn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality, easy to work with WI yarns are great quality and very easy to work with. I am a crocheter and must say this yarn is not 'sticky', holds its structure and lovely and soft to the touch. Very durable and great variety of colours available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I am just a beginner in knitting and bought this for my first ever project. I had to undo my work and restart at least 3 times, and the yarn was still perfectly fine! The colour variety they had in store was amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this I love this deep colour. Very good durable wool ideal for children's wear. Excellent value for money also love the range of colours. Although it would be brilliant if the WI did dk wool in baby pink blue and lemon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour, very nice yarn The yarn has a wonderful, fruity shade of colour with a lovely shimmer and soft fibre. Perfect for jumpers, cardigans, blankets and so on. You won't need more than 2 or 3 balls as they are massive 400g of yarn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely yarn! Very pleased with this yarn, it's lovely and soft. Also so pleased it comes in such a large ball I will only need the one ball for my current project so won't have lots of pesky ends to weave in when I finish!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really soft I am so pleased with this wool as it is very soft and I want it to make a sleeping bag for a baby. I have not yet started knitting, but if it is anything like the double knitting wool then it will be great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft and easy to work with Great wool, easy to work with and unpick if you’ve made and error. Personally I love the plum colour, but have also bought a blue yellow and white to make a jumper for a friend, and love the colour themes
