Women's Institute Slate Soft and Silky 4 Ply Yarn 100g

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Womens institute soft and silky 4 ply Found this yarn easily tangled while knitting, tried to knit to 4 ply pattern but work looked very uneven, some faults in yarn. Now doubled and using as Aran with more success although still have tangling as pulling from ball problem. Quite disappointed as have knit the DK with no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soft and silky I bought this to crochet cowls and it’s silky and soft inclined to split for post stitches but ok if you use a bigger hook. It’s lovely to wear. The pattern is Acorn a ctc stitch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft easy to work with Very soft wool and crochets well for sock making. It doesn’t feel like an acrylic yarn and it doesn’t split. Lots of colours available and a donation goes to the WI.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but... I've used this wool plenty of times in the past for many projects. I'm a fan of the texture and colour selection. However there's some minor issues. The white seems to be spun looser making it easier to put a hook or needle through. The black seems to have a slightly different texture. And finally the green seems to be a slightly different grade of wool that alters the tension. It's a good wool at a decent price and has a good motive but I would buy it in person.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Workhorse Yarn Women's institute yarn is my workhorse yarn. I needed more to finish my "A Floral Affair" vest (pattern available on Ravelry). I had two balls in stash of the slate, but needed one more. The ball band lists the yarn as a 4ply, but it's definitely more of a sort weight yarn, which is why I choose it for this particular project. For me the only difference this time was that this particular lot no. was thicker than the one that I'm used to, possibly making it more of a thin DK weight yarn. I can't be sure if this is a permanent change or if it was just a weird lot no. so something to keep an eye on in the future. This yarn feels good, and is a surprisingly warm knit. I recommend this brand for people just starting out to prove that yarn doesn't have to be horrible and scratchy - this really is smooth and silky, and has great drape on the finished time too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this yarn I love this yarn! the colour is beautiful and the silky texture means that I can crochet with it and it retains the effect of the stitch, without going fuzzy, almost like cotton but much more cost effective, which is great because I just wanted to play with some pattern and colour ideas. I would definitely consider buying it again, especially for larger projects like crotched throws or granny square blankets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yarn feels nice, probably drapes well Bought this yarn to knit in two strands with a yarn from my stash. Currently upcycling 10 years' worth of sock yarn leftovers knitted in two strands into a patchwork blanket, and I needed to knit a toning border. However, this yarn feels really nice and probably drapes well. I can see myself coming back to it for a garment at some stage. Giving it 4 stars as I don't know how it knits up by itself.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Variable quality Despite having the correct colour and batch number, when seeking to buy more yarn, they shade is very different. I’ve noticed that WI products are patchy on quality. Cotton yarn labels as DK is more of an Aran weight. And shade variation within a batch makes me believe the labels are wrong. Two projects have been spoilt by this brand. Im very disappointed. WI is a brand you presume you can trust!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely yarn with a great sheen I bought 1 ball of this yarn to crochet a net shopping bag and was extremely happy to see that it was plenty to make the bag and the fold away pocket. The yarn is very soft and the shine is lovely, this shade of grey is really rich and goes well with the magenta and purple shades, which I also bought, so I'll have a lovely trio of bags for my next shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully soft and great colour As a relative beginner to knitting and crocheting, I've tried quite a few different brands for my projects but I always come back to the Women's Institute ones - the colours are beautiful and the yarn so easy to work with. They also feel great, so soft to the touch so are perfect for cushion covers, blankets and the like. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely feeling yarn I am really enjoying crocheting with this yarn. It's definitely soft and silky and is giving a beautiful feel to my work. As it's 4 ply it can be a little frustrating when I am mid stitch and I either pick up a strand from the stitch below or leave a strand behind and have to re do but I'm persevering as it's giving such a nice finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant yarn I love this yarn I accidentally ordered it a while ago and discovered it! So chunky, thick and the perfect yarn for my project - a roll neck poncho for winter. Great quality, stunning colour and easy to work with, Womens institute have done a great job at creating this and I would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed indeed. Loving this 4ply. Currently knitting hubby some socks and have found the wool very easy to work with. I would definitely recommend and i have since bought several other colours that i cant wait to get started with. The quality is brilliant and the value with the 3 for 2 offer is a bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful soft and a pleasure to work with Absolutely love this yarn. I've crocheted several different items with this yarn in various colours. Every time it works up beautifully, is so soft and light and I always enjoy working with it. Excellent value for the quality. O would definitely use it again and recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lives upto it's name This yarn is so soft and silky, lovely to work up and gives a nice drape to blankets, scarves, etc. Does have a tendancy to split now and again though, but once you get the hang of how to crochet with it and if you give it a little re-twist as you go, it isn't a problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WI yarn, stale I already had 1 ball of yarn, and required 2 more for the project I am doing. I got 2 more balls but sadly one ball of yarn is thicker. I checked the names and codes several times but all same. Otherwise overall I love the yarn, it's soft and colour is beautiful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous product I'm really loving this yarn,it truly feels like a top end of the market yarn but without paying the price of one.Feels like pure luxury and I just know that the end results are going to look good and will hopefully delight the lucky recipient of my gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful to work with I'm using a combination of colours to crochet a large blanket. This yarn is lovely and soft with a smooth finish. It keeps its twist well making it easy to crochet without splitting. It's also included on the 3 for 2 making it excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is very versatile. I really love this product, used to knit a cowl as the winter approaches. Its silky finish makes it very stylish and can be worn with smart clothes to give an elegant look, or is equally appropriate to be worn with a casual outfit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this yarn! It's very soft to work with but comes together with a satisfying strength. I love this colour, slate, and have used it on many projects. I've used other colours in this range and they are all lovely to knit or crochet with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fab yarn I ordered this WI yarn in several colours as it is so soft and crochets up into baby blankets beautifully, you have to be careful cos it can split, but I prefer it to baby yarn as it is softer and comes in more colours

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terribly disappointed Began to crochet with this last night, only to find that it was in pieces and that i had to continually join the yarn. I bought another 12 balls, am dreading using them now and was so looking forward to this project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Bought 3 balls of the grey to knit a cardigan for my newborn little girl. Knitting up nicely in both moss st and stocking st. Would definitely repurchase especially as it's in the 3 for 2 offer so incredible value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I wouldn't normally choose a 100% acrylic yarn but this is beautiful to the touch and a pleasure to knit with. For a 4 ply yarn, it knits up surprisingly quickly. Slightly disappointing range of colours in store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant This yarn is so soft it's ideal for baby's . It knits up well and shows patterns strongly. The colours are vibrant, and of course the price is brilliant in other words all you could want from a good quality yarn

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent This yarn is very good value for money. It's east to knit with and the finished item looks and feels amazing. I have used it to knit many items and it washes really well. I would recommend this yarn to everyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 4ply Womens Institute Soft and Silky Yarn Slate I have used this yarn many times for knitting and crochet. I was disappointed with the last balls I bought as despite being the same batch numbers there were differences in the yarn thickness in the balls.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely wool Exactly what I was looking for to crochet a blanket. Great colour and lovely to crochet with. Only one concern, as I rewound the wool before I started I found a few balls that were split into 2 or 3 pieces
